Paddington

Now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD is the fun family film Paddington. Paddington is based off the beloved children’s book series by the same name.

I’ve loved Paddington since I was a young girl. I still remember a trip to England with my family and shopping in the infamous Harrods in London. That was the first time I ever saw a Paddington plush bear. I just had to have it. That was back in 1982′. I still have the bear too. I used it to decorate my kid’s room when they were babies. Sadly it’s been packed away in storage.

I was looking forward to seeing the live action version of Paddington. I was a bit worried that the live action film might not do the book series justice, but I think the filmmakers did a great job.

The film stayed true to the book series (as well as the animated series from many years ago (you can read my review for that series here).

Paddington arrives to London from Peru. He’s from a rare group of intelligent, talking bears. Paddington comes to London looking for adventure, and because a human explorer friend of his told him he would always be welcomed in London. Sadly that does not seem to be the case. Poor Paddington can’t seem to connect with any humans. That is until he meets the Brown family. They take to the little bear and give him the name Paddington since the met him at Paddington Station. They invite Paddington to come and stay with them.

The Brown family are very “prim and proper,” which Paddington has to get used to. He also has to get used to modern conveniences and things he was not exposed to back home in Peru.

Since this is a family friendly movie you know that Paddington gets into a lot of mischief. He is even pursued by a taxidermist, played by Nicole Kidman.

Will Paddington find his forever home with the Brown family in London? To find out you’ll need to pick up a copy of Paddington, now available where most movies are sold.

Here is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment. Please note that this trailer says it’s a December release. This is a trailer for when the film was in theaters. It’s not available for purchase.

I found this to be a very cute movie. I have teenagers, who are not easy to impress, and they liked the film. I can imagine that younger children will have a blast watching this.

The CGI animation for Paddington is outstanding. They put A LOT of detail into creating Paddington. The facial expressions crack me up.

This is the type of family friendly film that grown ups can appreciate just as much as kids. My husband and I both enjoyed it.

There are bonus features that are worth checking out on the Blu-ray copy.

  • Meet the Characters: An introduction to the cast and characters from the film.
  • When a Bear Comes to Stay: Check out some of Paddington’s high jinks.
  • From Page to Screen: A behind the scenes look at bringing this beloved storybook character to the big screen.
  • Lyric Music Video: A music video for the song “Shine,” along with the lyrics.
  • The Making of “Shine” with Gwen Stefani & Pharrell Williams: Learn the process involved in creating the music video for “Shine.”

I also have some fun FREE activity sheets that you can download and enjoy with your family. Simply click on the photo to save them to your computer.
